One of Australia’s leading disability charities and NDIS providers, Aruma, has for the first time, embarked on recruiting from overseas, welcoming two new Occupational Therapists from New Zealand, to their Melbourne site.

The journey for Occupational Therapists, Emma Adams and Krystal Dang, began on LinkedIn, where Aruma’s Talent Team Leader, Ali Pataky noticed their impressive work history and openness to relocating for work.

“I was interested in taking a different step in my career by exploring what was offered overseas. Australia was appealing because it’s close to home and I though Melbourne looked interesting. Ali was so proactive and quick to get on board with everything, it has been great,” shared Emma.

Similarly, Krystal had always dreamed of working overseas and had been previously charmed by Melbourne on family visits. With a background in mental health and primary healthcare, Krystal sought a change and embraced the opportunity to work in disability services.

Aruma currently supports 5,500 adults and children with a disability across the East Coast of Australia and offers supports and services like accommodation, community participation, therapeutics, supported employment and children’s services.

Both Emma and Krystal relocated with their partners, thanks to Aruma’s comprehensive relocation package. This support eased the transition and covered accommodation costs to make for a smooth entry into life in Melbourne. Emma’s partner has already secured a job, while Krystal’s partner is pursuing further studies and remote work.

So what do they think of Aruma so far? They both love their new roles and say it has surpassed their expectations!

“It’s been a great opportunity for my growth as an Occupational Therapist. I have also enjoyed joining a well-established organisation that has strong support systems,” she said.

Krystal added, “My background is in mental health, primary health care and the GP setting but I’m enjoying the change to the disability sector. I have come into it with an open mind, and it has been great so far. I am trying to absorb as much as I can,” she shared.

Emma and Krystal’s stories reflect the exciting possibilities and personal growth that come with embracing new opportunities. Their move to Melbourne marks the beginning of a new chapter, both professionally and personally, as they continue to make a positive impact in the field of occupational therapy at Aruma.
